I have continued to be busy trying to sort out the bike shed and create a tidy space for the garden tools & ‘stuff’. I want to move things out of my summerhouse to create a bit more space - I’m not sure what to do with the banana plant. I’ve tidied the patio a little more & will empty some of the pots to store them.
Friday
I wasn’t at work today and spent a large chunk of it clearing out the leaves from around the plants in the front garden. I also did some work in the shed creating a place to put the garden stuff and I also moved the wee apple tree from where its too close to the black elderflower and the magnolia into a space where the metal arch has been this year. I think it will create another wee space to plant up.
Thursday
I’ve been tidying out the cupboard under the stairs and putting things ready to go in the shed. I’ve bought a bin to put the bamboo stakes.
Wednesday
Its continuing to be rather wet and despite my best efforts the wet leaves are clogging up my front garden. Ben has been keeping an eye on the back garden and on his little catmint plant in the Magic Garden
Tuesday
Today I did a bit of leaf gathering for my leaf mould. Unfortunately I don’t have a lawnmower so can’t do as Monty Don suggests and mow the leaves so I’m just relying on the slower decomposition of whole leaves. Otherwise I’ve been out walking and enjoying the presence of fieldfares & stonechats.
Monday
Ben spent time in the Magic Garden today briefly as there were men in the house working. Unfortunately I didn’t get an opportunity to join him
Sunday
Today was a better weather day than we have had for some time. Everything is very wet and soggy but there is colour too & drops of water shining
Grey November Saturday
It was chilly and grey today and spotting with moisture. I did a little bit of inspection work in the Magic Garden and Ben inspected the water. I planted out the Tiarella Raspberry Sorbet next to the new heuchera
Friday
Another wet day and as Ben is being picked on by another cat I made him stay in this morning when I went to work. Has to be said, I don’t think he minded!
Thursday
Another pouring wet day!
Wednesday
Well, that’s another day and a half at work! Ben sensibly spent most of it at the neighbours!
Tuesday
It was horrendously wet today so Ben and I have had an indoor day so I’ve now got the fidgets although Ben is happily snoring away in his basket
Monday
I’ve been at work most of the day today while Ben guarded the Magic Garden and new ‘shed’ - it now has locks attached and the next task will be to put up the tool rack so I can store the garden tools safely. The new incinerator bin is home to my leaf mould. Between the ‘shed’ and the summerhouse I have planted a climber I bought from the supermarket - a Jasmine Beesianum
Jasmine Bessianum
Remembrance Sunday
I have never been much good at growing poppies. They still pop up spontaneously but I always think I should scattering more poppy seeds around
Saturday
Today I have been tidying up after the first of the autumn gales and planting out my new heuchera collection. These have gone along the side path under the black elder apart from the Heuchera Timeless Treasure which has gone behind the hazel arch underneath the globe artichokes.
Heuchera Jade Gloss, Black Forest Cake, Paprika & Lime Marmalade
Heuchera Paprika
Heuchera Jade Gloss
Heuchera Lime Marmalade
Heuchera Black Forest Cake
Heuchera Timeless Treasure
Ben inspected the damage from the gale and spent a lot of the day outside. He checked the catnip plants both in the Magic part and at the back of the garden and seemed to think quality was being maintained
Friday
Another day where it seems to be dark for most of the time I’m not working! I’ve now got the bike out in the new shelter locked to its steel post and padlocks on either end of the shelter I’m really pleased with how this has worked out. The shelf will be used for the bike accessories including the helmet.
Ben has spent more time in than out today but is generally around when I’m about. We spent some time inspecting the wind damage and putting things the right way up again. This weekend’s task will be a ‘stocktake’ as well as planting out the new heuchera.
Thursday
The ‘shed / bike shelter’ is roofed and gated in now so I just need to make it a bit more waterproof & add padlocks to be fully useful. I plan to add tool racks and a new bike stand. The soil pipe is back up too. It is very windy again so I expect the last of the leaves to be off now. It is also very mild.
Wednesday
Today I left work in the dark and came home in the dark! Yesterday was full moon and I took this picture of the moon on the way into work.
Tuesday
We started this morning with an hour or so of sunshine before the clouds inevitably crept in and it rained.
My next lot of plants from Plantagago arrived today, not that Ben was impressed! He was out briefly today but only on protest.
Monday
There is still plenty of blooms in the front garden - the monkshood is blooming at full rate and there are still plenty of flowers on the roses and coreopsis.
